Al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for last night’s attack that killed officials from the Jubbaland and South West administrations.
Al-Shabaab militants carried out the first attack on the residence of a Jubbaland administration official Hassn Inyow in Bardhere, Gedo region, killing him in his home, Al-Shabaab have announced on their website that the attack on the Jubbaland official was well-planned and carried out by its militants.
The Jubbaland administration have not yet commented on the killing of Hassan Inyow, by Al-Shabaab.
In another development, Al-Shabaab have also claimed on their website a separate attack on the outskirts of Baidoa had killed the Bula Jaay district commissioner and some of his bodyguards.
Al Shabaab have been pushed out of major urban centres of Somalia over the past decade, however they have a stronghold in rural areas in Somalia especially in the Jubbaland and SouthWest regions of Somalia. Al-Shabaab often launches direct and indirect attacks on government officials and soldiers in the country.
