Somali Magazine 29 Aug 2023- Lt. General Sam Okiding, Commander of ATMIS, briefed the media on ATMIS military successes, assistance for Somali security forces, and the ongoing attack against Al-Shabaab terrorist groups.
According to Lt. Gen. Okiding, preparations for the second phase of the evacuation of 3,000 ATMIS personnel by the end of September are now ongoing.
ATMIS will continue to work closely with the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), and other partners to facilitate a smooth transition of security duties to the Somali Security Forces, according to the Commander.
He reaffirmed that ATMIS will put measures in place to avoid a security vacuum when it leaves Somalia at the end of December 2024.
