On October 20, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Wang Yu, met with H.E. Ali Mohamed Omar, Somalia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to reinforce the strategic partnership between China and Somalia and explored potential areas for expanded cooperation.
Focus on Practical Cooperation between Somalia and China
Both officials discussed avenues for practical cooperation, aiming to support mutual development goals. Ambassador Wang emphasized China’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s progress in economic, social, and infrastructure sectors. The State Minister reciprocated, expressing Somalia’s eagerness to deepen ties with China, particularly in trade, education, and technology transfer.

During the talks, Ambassador Wang Yu and State Minister Ali Mohamed Omar stressed the value of working together to tackle global challenges. Additionally, they discussed cultural and educational exchanges. These initiatives, they noted, would build mutual understanding and strengthen ties between the people of both nations. Together, China and Somalia aim to set a foundation for sustainable growth that benefits the entire region.
