A high-level Djiboutian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abdukadir Hussein Omar, arrived in Beledweyne on Friday as part of an official visit to strengthen cooperation with Somalia. Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiiraan region, is one of several cities on the delegation’s itinerary.

The group was warmly received at Ugaas Khaliif Airport by regional leaders, alongside Somali and Djiboutian troops serving under the African Union mission in the area. Their arrival highlights Djibouti’s ongoing role in supporting peace, stability, and security efforts in Somalia.

During the visit, Minister Omar is expected to meet with senior officials from the Hiiraan regional administration. He will also hold discussions with commanders of the Somali National Army (SNA) stationed in the region, as well as Djiboutian officers who are part of the multinational African Union mission. These engagements aim to assess the security situation on the ground and reinforce collaboration between Somali and Djiboutian forces working to stabilize central Somalia.

The trip to Beledweyne comes just a day after Minister Omar’s meetings in Mogadishu with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and other federal government leaders. Those talks focused on ways to deepen bilateral relations, enhance military cooperation, and coordinate regional strategies against security threats.

Djibouti has long been one of Somalia’s closest allies in the region. As a neighboring country, it has consistently supported Somalia through both diplomatic engagement and direct military contributions. Djiboutian troops are a key part of the African Union mission, playing an important role in frontline operations against armed groups and in efforts to secure critical towns and supply routes.

Later on Friday, the Djiboutian delegation is scheduled to continue its tour with a visit to Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug state. The planned meetings there are also expected to focus on strengthening regional stability and fostering closer ties between local authorities and Djibouti.

This multi-city visit demonstrates Djibouti’s commitment to Somalia at both the national and regional levels. By engaging with leaders in Mogadishu as well as local administrations in Hiiraan and Galmudug, Djibouti seeks to promote stronger security cooperation and support Somalia’s ongoing state-building process.

For Somalia, the visit underscores the importance of international partnerships in confronting security challenges and moving the country toward greater peace and stability.
