Arsenal gave their Premier League title hopes a major boost with an emphatic 4-1 victory away at Tottenham, powered by another standout performance from Eberechi Eze. The England midfielder once again proved to be a nightmare for Spurs, scoring twice just three months after hitting a hat trick against them earlier in the season. Viktor Gyokeres also netted two goals as Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the table.
Eze’s move to Arsenal in the summer raised eyebrows, especially since Tottenham had shown strong interest in signing him. However, Arsenal — the club he supported as a boy — secured his signature in a deal reported to be worth £60 million. Since November, his only goals have come against Spurs, making his impact in this fierce rivalry even more painful for Tottenham fans.
The win was important for Arsenal after two straight draws had allowed second-place Manchester City to close the gap in the title race. The Gunners restored their five-point lead at the top, although City still have a game in hand. The two sides are set to meet in mid-April in a match that could be decisive in determining the champion. They will also face each other in the English League Cup final on March 22, adding even more tension to their rivalry this season.
Arsenal started strongly, with Eze opening the scoring. Tottenham briefly responded when Randal Kolo Muani capitalized on a mistake from Declan Rice to level the match at 1-1 in the 34th minute. However, Arsenal regained control in the second half. Gyokeres fired in from the edge of the box early after the break to make it 2-1. Eze then added his second goal in the 61st minute, reacting quickly to score from a rebound after Bukayo Saka’s shot was saved. Gyokeres sealed the victory with another goal in stoppage time. Arsenal now have 10 league matches remaining as they chase their first league title since 2004.
Elsewhere, Liverpool secured a dramatic 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest thanks to a late goal from Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentina midfielder experienced a rollercoaster ending to the match. In the 89th minute, he thought he had scored when the ball rebounded into the net off him, but a VAR review ruled the goal out after the ball was judged to have touched his arm.
Mac Allister did not give up. Deep into stoppage time, he was in the right place to score after Forest goalkeeper Stefan Ortega failed to hold Virgil van Dijk’s header. Although there was another VAR check to confirm Van Dijk was onside, the goal stood, giving Liverpool a valuable three points. The result keeps Liverpool in sixth place, level on points with Chelsea and Manchester United as the race for Champions League spots remains tight.
Crystal Palace also claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers. Substitute Evann Guessand scored a last-minute winner to secure the points. The match came amid uncertainty over the future of Palace manager Oliver Glasner. Although he led the club to FA Cup success last season, he has indicated he will leave in the summer, and tensions with supporters have grown in recent weeks. Despite the off-field noise, Palace managed to grind out an important win, while Wolves remain far from safety in the relegation battle.
Sunderland’s strong home form continues to fade after they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Fulham at the Stadium of Light. Raul Jimenez scored twice for Fulham, including one from the penalty spot. Sunderland had been the only team unbeaten at home earlier in the season, but this latest result marks their second straight home loss, raising concerns as the campaign enters its final stretch.
