Mike Pence, a former vice president, suggested on Wednesday that if Donald Trump is nominated for president in 2024, he might not support him.
If Trump were to run for president again and win the Republican nomination, Pence responded to a crowd at Georgetown University by saying, “Well, there might be somebody else I’d prefer more.”
What I can say is that, he continued, “I have every confidence that the Republican Party will sort out leadership. “For the past 20 days, the midterm elections have consumed all of my attention. But after that, we’ll be considering the nation’s and our own futures, and I’ll keep you updated.
Pence avoids publicly criticising Trump despite their falling out over “fraud” allegations during the 2020 presidential elections and the events surrounding the US capital raid on January 6, 2021.
Trump has not yet made a clear declaration about his candidacy, implying that he may run for president in 2024.
Speaking to New York magazine in July, Trump stated that he had already decided to run for president and would only make the announcement on November 8 during the midterm elections.
