The state government of Galmudug is concerned about the rising political tensions in Somalia, and has urged parties to avoid making unilateral actions that could jeopardize the election process.

“The Galmudug government understands that the country’s elections were held in a spirit of consultation, compromise, and consensus, and it regrets actions that could create a climate of political instability, jeopardizing the election’s conclusion. The Galmudug government emphasizes the importance of adhering to the agreed-upon process and ensuring that any conflicts are resolved by the National Consultative Forum.”

The announcement comes after the South West State of Somalia (SWS) said on Tuesday morning that it would no longer work with Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on election issues. Southwest State charged the Prime Minister with infringing on the country’s independence.

There are worries that the latest political fallout will lead to further delays in Somalia’s elections, which have been ongoing for over a year and a half.
