On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden expressed optimism about meeting his Chinese counterpart outside the upcoming G20 summit in Bali this fall.
If Xi Jinping is present, I’m sure I’ll see him, the president responded when asked if he would run into him at the summit of world leaders.
The remarks follow the White House’s Aug. 12 confirmation that preparations for a face-to-face meeting between the heads of the two largest economies in the world are under way.
The Wall Street Journal reported that day that Chinese officials are attempting to arrange the face-to-face meeting for November, when Xi is scheduled to travel abroad for the first time since January 2020 to attend a pair of summits in Indonesia and Thailand.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit is scheduled to take place two days after the G20, which is scheduled to take place in Bali on November 15–16.
