At least 20 individuals were slain on Sunday after an intensive clan dispute in Galgaduud’s Dhabad area.
For the second day in a row, residents in the Laba-gale neighbourhood, just south of Abudqak, have reported heavy gunshots.
The combat has resulted in serious losses on both sides, according to the governor of Dhabad district, with dozens of injured fighters being evacuated to neighbouring hospitals.
Residents said that the conflict was prompted by a quarrel over grazing grounds.
Somali government forces are said to have come on the area to mediate between the competing clans.
The Galmudug regional administration has yet to publicly comment on the clash.
Water scarcity, soil erosion, and dwindling grazing space have exacerbated clan rivalries over agricultural land in central Somalia’s Galgadud region.
Water scarcity, soil erosion, and dwindling grazing space have increased clan rivalries over agricultural land in the Galgadud region of central Somalia. According to an IOM assessment on climate change and its impact on rural communities, inter-communal conflict accounts for 35 to 40% of all violence in Somalia, with the majority of disagreements centred on land and water for grazing.
