For at least 30 minutes, the Blues competed with 10 players.
Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell was shown a straight red card in the 59th minute for a deliberate tackle on Rodrygo.
Chilwell won’t participate in the second leg in London.
On April 18, the parties will meet at Stamford Bridge in London.
The other game of the evening saw AC Milan defeat Napoli at home 1-0.
In Milan’s San Siro, Ismael Bennacer scored the game-winning goal in the 40th minute.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, a midfielder for Napoli, was dismissed in the second half.
