Seven French nationals are now being imprisoned in Iran, according to the country’s foreign minister, who announced the detention of two additional nationals on Saturday.
Catherine Colonna told the French newspaper Le Parisien, “We are concerned about two other compatriots and it looks from the recent check that they are also detained. “We want access to consular protection and their quick release.”
“During a protracted and challenging exchange, my Iranian colleague pledged to uphold this right of access. I’m looking forward to that coming true,” she continued.
Since a young woman named Mahsa Amini passed away in police detention on September 16 as a result of her arrest for allegedly breaking dress code, Iran has been shaken by protests.
