The Jubbaland regional administration says it has arrested members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group following an operation in Kismayo, the capital of the Jubbaland.
According to a statement from the Jubbaland intelligence service, captured al-Shabaab members were hiding in and around Kismayo. Administration officials stated that “The Jubbaland Intelligence and Security Agency (JISA) is conducting security operations inside Kismayo targeting members of the terrorist group hiding in and around the city,” with the aim of detaining them.
This is a citywide operations, “which is going on in all neighborhoods of Kismayo and some members of the terrorist cell have been apprehended whilst others are being pursued,” the statement said.
JISA said it would soon share with the media and the public a full report on the arrested members and their activities, which they said, were against the security of the people and the country.
Finally, the statement issued by the organization appealed to the Somali people and especially those in Jubbaland to assist in this operation, emphasizing on the need for public cooperation, “We call on all Somalis, especially the people of Kismayo, to remain vigilant and support the operation to eradicate the remnants hiding in Kismayo,” the statement said.
JISA’s operation in Kismayo comes as Jubbaland prepares to hold lower house elections in Kismayo and Garbaharey.
