In the wake of recent attacks attributed to the Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab, the Kenyan government has sought to allay public fears, emphasizing its commitment to national security and the effectiveness of its counter-terrorism strategies.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen addressed concerns following incidents in Garissa County, where an improvised explosive device injured three police officers in Dadaab, and in Boni Forest, where five officers were killed in an ambush. Murkomen highlighted the successful neutralization and arrest of Al-Shabaab operatives during these operations, underscoring the proactive measures taken by security forces.

Emphasizing the importance of community collaboration, Murkomen praised the synergy between local residents, National Government Administration Officers, and the National Police Service. He noted that such partnerships have been instrumental in detecting and thwarting potential threats, leading to a significant reduction in attacks on villages and highways.

The Cabinet Secretary also acknowledged the challenges posed by the volatile situation in neighboring Somalia, stating that regional instability continues to impact Kenya’s security landscape. He assured the public that the government is equipping its officers with advanced tools and intelligence capabilities to stay ahead of evolving threats.

Murkomen concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to safeguarding its citizens, asserting that security agencies are in full control and will continue to adapt to counter the dynamic tactics employed by militant groups.
