At an extraordinary meeting of the FGS Council of Ministers in the afternoon, the Director General of the Immigration and Nationality Agency, Mohamed Aden Kofi, was relieved of his duties.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said the council had also approved the appointment of Abdulkadir Elmi Ali as the new director of the agency.

Roble’ office released a brief statement which said “The FGS Council of Ministers today approved the appointment of Abdulkadir Elmi Ali as the new Director General of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, thanking former Director General Mohamed Aden Kofi for his work,” this comes in the backdrop of changes in the leadership of Somalia security agencies such as NISA.

Today’s meeting of the Council was extraordinary, and a message was sent to the ministers in the middle of the night informing them of today’s meeting which took place in the afternoon.

The meeting follows a postponed meeting of cabinet members on Thursday, which discusses the overall situation in the country.

Kofi was one of the longest serving directors in the federal government, serving under Hassan Sheikh, and by the time Farmajo arrived, he had become a handful of untouchables.

Somalia is at a critical juncture with delayed elections, a standoff between PM Roble and President Farmaajo amid a fallout from the Ikram Tahlil case.
