Somali Magazine 4 September 2023- According to the Saudi Press Agency, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre struck a $5 million agreement with a Somali civil society organisation on Sunday to provide safe drinking water to drought-affected villages.
The arrangement will entail the digging of 24 solar-powered artesian wells and the renovation of another 20 wells, according to Dr. Abdullah Saleh Al-Moallem, director of KSrelief’s health and environmental help department.
Al-Moallem also stated that there would be a sanitation and hygiene teaching programme, as well as training for water resource management committees on well operation and maintenance.
The wells will help over 1 million Somalis by providing a sustainable and renewable supply of clean drinking water.
According to the Saudi Aid Platform, the Kingdom has committed more than $400 million in Somalia’s humanitarian operations.
According to Al-Moallem, KSRelief just started $190 million in initiatives ranging from community assistance to health, water, emergency relief, food distribution, malnutrition prevention, and empowerment.
The $5 million water effort is one of several established by the Kingdom through KSrelief to help individuals in need.
