The Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Finance, HE Bihi Iman Egeh, told Somali National Television that our government’s budget has increased by %25, indicating that the government can pay employee salaries without assistance.
The Minister stated that the government had paid the last two months of salary without the assistance on which Somalia had previously relied.
“We did not need any support from foreign donors or aid to pay the salary for the past two months, the internal revenue has solved the salary of the government staff, truly speaking%25 is something big, but we need to increase the percentage from there” , Bihi stated.
He asked Somalis to pay their taxes and keep the administration accountable in order for the government and its people to have a transparent economy and to speed up the country’s reconstruction.
Minister Egeh stated that we have reached a watershed moment as a result of the debt relief and that we should not politicize the long-term process.
The Minister stated that our current results are the result of our efforts to combat corruption, which has had a significant impact on our country’s financial system.
