The chairman of Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a, Maalim Mohamud Sheikh Hassan Farah, spoke about many issues in an interview with the BBC Somali Service.
The focus was on the situation in Galmudug, following the recent fighting in Guri’el between Ahlu Sunna and Galmudug administration forces backed by the federal government forces.
The fighting ended after Ahlu Sunna forces withdrew from the town of Guriel, and since then Ahlu Sunna leaders have said their plan is to “continue their ideology and work.” To support the people who should of have been supported whenever they needed it by their own government.
Moalim Mohamud, who described the fighting in Guri El as “unfortunate”, said they were outside the town of Guri’el and had left the town for talks, but there were no ongoing talks.
“Ahlu Sunna is close to Guri’el, it is there, and it was at the request of Islamic clerics from Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a and its leaders,” he told Sabahi.
He said the talks would take on two roles: “Ahlu Sunna and the role of prime minister in the regional administration, while leaving the role of the president.”
“Who took Sheikh Shakir away from the government officials? Did we accept him and say let him take office? He is like us now, so we are a government. We are two governments that have come together, so we are part of the two governments, ”said Moalim Mohamud.
He added, “The solution is to sit down and talk about everyone’s rights. “If we do not negotiate, we will continue to govern and we will repel any attackers.”
