Police in Mogadishu have arrested a woman accused of killing her husband in the Dayniile district, an incident that has drawn renewed attention to the rising concerns around domestic violence in the capital. According to a statement released by the Banadir Regional Police Command on Thursday, officers detained the suspect, identified as Fadumo Mohamed Osman, shortly after the incident took place.
Police say the victim, Hassan Mohamed Nur, lost his life following injuries he sustained during a violent altercation at their home. Authorities reported that the confrontation involved a knife, and Hassan did not survive the wounds he suffered before help could reach him. The police responded quickly after receiving reports from neighbours and community members who alerted security forces to the situation.
Following her arrest, Fadumo was taken into police custody for questioning as detectives began an investigation to understand what led to the tragic dispute. Officers noted that, while the initial information suggests a domestic conflict that turned deadly, they are still gathering evidence and statements from witnesses to determine the full circumstances of the case.
Investigators said they are working carefully to uncover the motive behind the confrontation, emphasising that it is too early to draw conclusions until all interviews and forensic reviews are completed. Once the inquiry is finalised, authorities confirmed that the suspect will be presented before the courts to face the legal process.
The Banadir Regional Police Command also used the incident to highlight growing worries about serious domestic violence cases reported in Mogadishu and other parts of the country. According to police, such incidents—especially those involving married couples—have increased in recent months, with several suspects currently in custody awaiting trial. The command urged families to seek help when conflicts escalate and encouraged community members to report signs of domestic abuse early before situations become dangerous.
Police officials added that they are working with community leaders, local administrations and civil society groups to create more awareness around peaceful conflict resolution and to strengthen preventive measures. They cautioned that authorities will continue to take firm action against anyone involved in violent crimes within the home, stressing that safety and protection of families remain a priority.
The investigation into Hassan Mohamed Nur’s death is still underway, and police say they will release more information once the case progresses further.
