Nearly two million Muslim pilgrims have ascended Mount Arafat, marking the spiritual climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. Draped in white garments, the worshippers gathered at sunrise, spending the day in deep prayer and supplication, seeking forgiveness and spiritual renewal.

The sacred journey began in Mina, where pilgrims spent the night in meditation before making their way to Arafat, a site revered as the place where Prophet Muhammad delivered his Farewell Sermon. The day at Arafat is considered the most crucial part of Hajj, as it symbolizes devotion, humility, and the pursuit of divine mercy.

Saudi authorities have implemented extensive logistical measures to ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims, deploying thousands of security personnel and medical teams to assist worshippers. The scorching summer heat has posed challenges, with officials urging pilgrims to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Following their time at Arafat, pilgrims will descend to Muzdalifah, where they will collect pebbles for the symbolic stoning of the devil ritual in Mina. This act, performed over three days, represents the rejection of evil and the reaffirmation of faith. The pilgrimage will culminate in the celebration of Eid al-Adha, during which animals are sacrificed in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience to God.

Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake the journey at least once in their lifetime. The pilgrimage draws millions of believers from across the globe, fostering unity and spiritual reflection.

Saudi officials have reported that this year’s Hajj has seen a record number of international pilgrims, with over 1.47 million arriving from various countries. The total number is expected to exceed two million, making it one of the largest gatherings in recent years.

As the pilgrims complete their sacred rites, the experience of standing on Mount Arafat remains a profound moment of faith, renewal, and unity, reinforcing the spiritual significance of Hajj in the lives of millions.
