On Thursday, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein met with Ambassador Francisco Madiera, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, to discuss AMISOM’s role in electoral security.
The high-level meeting follows multiple Al-Shabaab attacks in Beledweyne and Mogadishu, the capital.
Six people were killed in an attack on Mogadishu’s international airport, while 48 people were killed and 108 were injured in twin blasts in Beledweyne.
The attack was condemned by the Prime Minister, who also stated that such actions would not prevent the country from holding elections as soon as possible. He urged Somalis to be extra vigilant and to cooperate with security forces.
