The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Mohamed Hussein Roble, today held a private meeting with a United Nations delegation led by the Secretary-General for Africa.
Roble and the delegation led by Mss. Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee discussed a number of issues, starting with Somalia’s 2021 elections.
A brief statement from the prime minister’s office said the meeting focused on ensuring women’s quotas.
“Roble and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Africa, discussed issues including the country’s elections, and in particular the confirmation of the 30% quota for women in the Somali parliament ,” Roble’s office said in a statement.
The meeting also discussed UN development projects in Somalia and strengthening cooperation between the Somali government and UN agencies.
The meeting was also attended by the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan.
The United Nations strongly supports the federal government, and is closely monitoring the country’s elections through the various stages.
