Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chaired the weekly Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday in Mogadishu, where discussions centered on speeding up state-building initiatives and improving the quality of public services across the country. The meeting brought together cabinet members who reviewed the government’s ongoing efforts in key areas such as security, governance, and economic development.

President Mohamud emphasized the need for stronger cooperation among ministries, urging officials to work together more effectively and uphold the values of accountability and transparency in all government operations. He noted that the success of the administration depends on the ability of ministries to coordinate their efforts and deliver results that directly benefit Somali citizens.

During the session, the ministers briefed the President on recent progress made across different sectors. In the area of security, officials reported that Somali forces have made major strides in their operations against the al-Shabaab militant group. Over the past six months, the army has carried out several successful offensives, dealing heavy blows to the militants and reclaiming key territories. The ministers also highlighted improvements in training and equipping the Somali National Army, which have enhanced its operational readiness and overall performance in maintaining security and stability.

On the economic front, the Council discussed ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s financial systems and promote sustainable growth. Ministers outlined measures aimed at improving revenue collection, supporting local businesses, and attracting investment to create more job opportunities. The President encouraged continued collaboration with development partners to ensure that economic progress translates into tangible benefits for all citizens.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the 2026 national budget, which the government is currently preparing. The Council agreed that the upcoming budget will focus on increasing spending in areas that directly improve people’s lives, particularly health, education, and social welfare. The goal, according to officials, is to ensure that government resources are directed toward programs that enhance access to essential services, reduce poverty, and build stronger communities.

President Mohamud stressed that these investments are key to achieving long-term stability and national progress. He pointed out that a well-educated, healthy, and economically empowered population is the foundation of a strong and self-reliant Somalia. The President also encouraged ministers to involve citizens and local leaders in development planning to ensure that government initiatives reflect the real needs of the people.

In his closing remarks, President Mohamud urged members of the Council to play an active role in the country’s democratization process. He emphasized the importance of building public trust through open dialogue, fair governance, and inclusive decision-making. According to the President, fostering unity and strengthening national institutions will not only reinforce Somalia’s image but also help the country move closer to achieving full political stability and self-governance.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from all ministries to continue working collaboratively toward Somalia’s vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic nation. The government reaffirmed its determination to deliver on its promises, improve service delivery, and maintain the momentum in building a stronger state for the Somali people.
