On Sunday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni attended the graduation ceremony of freshly trained Somali soldiers in Kampala, Uganda.
President Mohamud stressed during his remarks at the occasion that the government’s primary goal is to modernize the National Army, which serves as the cornerstone for the country’s governance, and to achieve a speedy victory in the war against terrorism.
The newly trained soldiers demonstrated their abilities in a parade, where they thanked President Mohamud for prioritizing the reconstruction of the army forces.
President Hassan Sheikh commended the Ugandan government for its unselfish support of both the Somali people and government, and he thanked the United Arab Emirates for funding army training.
Although the President did not specify how many troops graduated on Sunday, Hussein Sheikh-Ali, the country’s national security adviser, announced in January that the government is training 3,000 soldiers in Uganda. Furthermore, the adviser recently stated that troops from neighboring nations would participate in the next phase of military operations against al-Shabab.
According to Kamal Dahir Hassan Gutale, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s national security adviser, the fresh attack will begin during Ramadan, which begins this Wednesday.
