A senior delegation from the Puntland government traveled to the recently liberated town of Dhaadaar on Monday to meet with Puntland Defence Forces and evaluate the overall security and humanitarian situation in the area. The visit came shortly after security forces successfully regained control of the town from militant groups, marking an important step toward restoring stability in the region. The team was led by Interior Minister Abdi Farah Juxa and included State Minister of the Presidency Abdifatah Abdinur and the deputy minister of humanitarian affairs. Their mission was to assess how the troops were holding ground, understand the immediate needs of the community, and determine what measures were necessary to ensure that peace and normal life return to Dhaadaar.
During their visit, the officials held meetings with military commanders, local administrators, and community leaders who provided detailed briefings on the current situation on the ground. Discussions centered on recent security improvements, the work required to stabilize the town, and the steps needed to provide residents with essential services after months of disruption. Officials emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between security forces and civilians, noting that the success of the operation depended not only on military strength but also on strong community support.
Puntland authorities explained that their priority now is to maintain the security gains made during the operation. They highlighted the importance of preventing militants from re-entering or regrouping and stressed that stabilization efforts must begin immediately to reassure residents and encourage displaced families to return home. In these meetings, the Minister of Security and local leaders outlined the immediate needs of the town, including improved humanitarian access, restoration of government services, and support for vulnerable groups affected by the conflict.
The visiting ministers praised the Puntland Defence Forces, saying the troops demonstrated professionalism, discipline, and courage throughout the operation. They commended the soldiers for their dedication and assured them that the government remains committed to supporting them as they secure other areas threatened by militant activity. The delegation also encouraged the forces to continue working closely with the community by listening to their concerns, ensuring their safety, and addressing any potential security risks before they escalate.
Local community representatives welcomed the government delegation and expressed their renewed sense of hope following the liberation of their town. They said that life had been extremely challenging under militant control, and the return of government forces had brought relief and cautious optimism. Residents emphasized the need for continued cooperation between security forces and civilians, explaining that a strong partnership is essential for building trust and ensuring long-term peace. They also highlighted the need for humanitarian assistance, especially for families who lost property or fled their homes.
The Puntland government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting newly liberated areas, expanding security operations, and working with communities to build stability. Officials said the government will continue to prioritize restoring governance structures, rebuilding local institutions, and providing development support so that families can rebuild their lives. They added that long-term peace requires more than military action; it requires effective leadership, constant engagement with communities, and a clear plan for development and reconciliation.
As the delegation concluded its visit, leaders stressed that Dhaadaar represents an important step in Puntland’s broader efforts to secure the region and push back against militant threats. The government aims to strengthen its presence in all liberated areas and ensure residents feel safe, supported, and included in rebuilding efforts. Officials noted that while challenges remain, the cooperation between security forces and local communities gives them confidence that peace can be achieved and sustained across the region.
