“This sacred month is a time for reflection and spiritual growth,” US President Joe Biden said in a statement announcing the start of Ramadan on Friday.
“On the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan, (First Lady) Jill and I extend our best wishes to Muslim communities here in the United States and around the world,” he said. He said, “Communities come together to practice forgiveness and resilience, to show compassion and generosity of spirit to those in need, to give, and to celebrate the many blessings of life with loved ones.”
The US president stated that “we must also continue” to support those who are suffering and vulnerable around the world, as well as those who are persecuted or facing hardship.
“Whoever does even an atom’s weight of good will see its results,” Biden said, quoting the Holy Qur’an.
He also stated that the US will speak out for human rights, particularly for Uyghurs in China, Rohingya in Burma, and other Muslim communities around the world.
“Jill and I wish you and your loved ones a blessed and prosperous month from the Biden family to yours, and from the People’s House to your own homes. Kareem Ramadan! “Added he.
