Over 70 extremists killed and weapons seized as Somali National Army and local fighters push back insurgents in a decisive 48-hour mission.
The Somali National Army (SNA), working alongside local defense fighters from the Hiiraan region, has carried out a successful military operation against the Al-Shabaab militant group. In a 48-hour offensive along the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle, the forces managed to kill more than 70 Al-Shabaab fighters, according to government reports.
This joint effort marks a major step forward in Somalia’s ongoing fight against the extremist group, which has ties to Al-Qaeda. Al-Shabaab has been trying to strengthen its presence in central Somalia, but this operation has dealt them a heavy blow. In addition to the large number of militants killed, the Somali forces also captured a significant amount of weapons. This is expected to weaken the group’s ability to carry out more attacks in the region.
Government officials praised the bravery and determination of both the national army and the local communities involved in the operation. Special recognition was given to the people of Hiiraan, who continue to support the fight against extremism and work closely with the army to protect their land.
This latest military success comes during a difficult time for the country. Just a few days earlier, Colonel Abdirahmaan Hujaale, a respected leader in the Somali army, was killed in an attack. His loss was deeply felt by his fellow soldiers and the Somali people. His courage and leadership had made a big impact in the fight against Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan.
In addition, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently survived an assassination attempt believed to have been planned by Al-Shabaab. These events have shown the ongoing dangers posed by the militant group, but they have also strengthened the government’s resolve to continue its mission.
In a statement, the Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to defeating Al-Shabaab and restoring peace and stability in all parts of the country. The government said it would continue launching operations against the group and work closely with Somali citizens and international partners to build a safer future.
Al-Shabaab has been active in Somalia for many years and often targets both civilians and government forces in an effort to spread fear and gain control over territory. But the recent success in Hiiraan shows that Somali forces, with support from local communities, are capable of standing up to the group and pushing them back.
The government is urging citizens to stay strong and united in the fight against extremism. Officials have also encouraged more community cooperation, as local support has played a key role in many recent victories against Al-Shabaab.
The Somali National Army, supported by local fighters, has made it clear that they will not allow terrorists to take over their land. This latest operation is proof that Somalia is taking serious steps to defeat terrorism and protect its people.
Moving forward, the government plans to increase military efforts in other regions where Al-Shabaab is active. With continued support from international allies and the Somali people, leaders believe they can achieve long-lasting peace and stability in the country.
The fight is far from over, but this operation has sent a clear message: Somalia will not back down in its battle against terrorism.
