Somali government forces, in collaboration with local militia, successfully conducted a military raid in the Mudug region, eliminating a senior Al-Shabaab commander and ten of his fighters. The operation, which targeted insurgent-controlled villages near Jowle, is part of an intensified effort to weaken the militant group’s presence in central Somalia.

According to military officials, the operation resulted in the death of Abdullahi Said Bulhiye, a key Al-Shabaab leader overseeing militant activities in the region. Security sources confirmed that Bulhiye played a significant role in the group’s logistical and operational planning, making him a primary target for Somali forces. His death is seen as a major blow to the insurgents, who have long used the Mudug region as a staging ground for attacks.

The Somali government released a statement detailing the success of the mission, noting that Bulhiye’s close bodyguards were also neutralized in the attack. The assault, executed with precision, was designed to disrupt the group’s command structure and limit its ability to regroup.

In recent months, the Mudug region, particularly under the Galmudug administration, has witnessed an increase in military operations aimed at reclaiming territories from Al-Shabaab. Somali forces, with support from local armed groups, have launched a coordinated offensive to dismantle insurgent strongholds and restore stability in the region. Officials say this latest attack is part of a broader strategy to sustain military pressure on the militants and curb their operational capabilities.

The Somali government has been intensifying its fight against Al-Shabaab, seeking to eradicate its presence in key areas and prevent further attacks on civilians, security forces, and infrastructure. This offensive is part of a nationwide campaign to weaken the group’s grip on the country and pave the way for long-term peace and security.

Military commanders emphasized their commitment to continuing these operations, vowing to sustain efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab leadership and disrupt its networks. They highlighted the critical role of local militias in supporting government troops, stressing that community involvement is essential in the fight against insurgency.

As Somali forces push forward with their offensive, the battle against Al-Shabaab remains a significant challenge, requiring sustained efforts, intelligence coordination, and continued support from both local and international partners. However, officials remain optimistic that ongoing military pressure will ultimately lead to the dismantling of the group’s strongholds and the restoration of peace in central Somalia.
