Security Forces Respond to Insurgent Attack with Deadly Precision, Weakening Al-Shabaab’s Stronghold in Lower Shabelle

Mogadishu (HOL) – At least 82 Al-Shabaab militants, including high-ranking leaders, were killed in a series of airstrikes carried out by Somali security forces on Thursday. According to the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), the strikes were launched in response to an early morning attack by Al-Shabaab on Somali army bases in the Lower Shabelle region. Another 19 militants were wounded in the counter-attack.

The airstrikes targeted Al-Shabaab positions near the villages of Sabiib and Anole. Local residents reported hearing heavy gunfire and explosions after militants carried out coordinated attacks on army installations before dawn. The Somali military, acting on intelligence reports, quickly launched airstrikes to repel the insurgents and prevent further violence.

A statement from NISA confirmed that the military operation lasted from the early hours of the morning until the evening. Security forces acted swiftly to stop Al-Shabaab’s efforts to destabilize the region.

“Our forces successfully eliminated dozens of Al-Shabaab members who attempted to launch attacks on security installations. The military operation, which started in the morning, was completed by the evening,” the statement read.

NISA also urged civilians in the area to avoid locations where Al-Shabaab militants are known to hide, as these places remain key targets for government-led military actions.

This military response comes just one day after another major security operation in Sumadaale, Middle Shabelle. In that operation, the Somali National Army (SNA) carried out intelligence-led raids that targeted Al-Shabaab fighters and leaders who had gathered for a meeting. Several high-ranking members of the group were killed during the raid.

The Somali government has been ramping up its efforts to weaken Al-Shabaab’s influence in the country. The militant group, which has been responsible for numerous deadly attacks in Somalia and neighboring countries, has been facing intensified military operations from Somali forces, backed by international allies.

The Lower Shabelle region has long been a stronghold for Al-Shabaab, with militants using the area as a base for planning and launching attacks. However, with ongoing operations by Somali forces, the group has been suffering significant losses. Security officials say they are committed to eliminating the threat posed by the militants and ensuring peace and stability in the country.

In recent months, the Somali government has taken a more aggressive approach against Al-Shabaab, conducting frequent airstrikes and ground operations to dismantle the group’s networks. Officials say these efforts are critical in preventing further attacks and protecting civilian populations from terrorist activities.

Somali security forces have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may help authorities track down Al-Shabaab militants. They also reassured the public that operations against the group would continue until the militants are completely neutralized.

As the government continues its campaign against terrorism, the recent airstrikes serve as a strong message that Somali forces are determined to eliminate Al-Shabaab and restore security across the nation. Despite the challenges, Somali authorities remain confident in their ability to weaken the militant group and secure the country’s future.
