Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Monday at the Qatari Royal Palace, where the two leaders held important talks on strengthening relations between their nations.

During the meeting, President Hassan Sheikh expressed Somalia’s unwavering support for Qatar. He emphasized that both the Somali government and the Somali people would never tolerate any infringement on Qatar’s sovereignty, dignity, or security. The President noted that Somalia and Qatar share a long history of friendship and brotherhood, and that Somalia remains firmly committed to standing by Qatar in times of challenge.

Emir Tamim warmly welcomed this reassurance from Somalia, thanking President Hassan Sheikh for his solidarity and support. He underlined the importance of continuing to build upon the strong and historic partnership between the two countries, which has grown steadily over the years through cooperation in politics, development, and humanitarian fields. The Emir expressed optimism that the bonds of unity between Somalia and Qatar would only deepen further, particularly at a time when both nations value collective strength and cooperation within the Arab and Islamic world.

The meeting came as President Hassan Sheikh and Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, arrived in Doha to participate in the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit. The summit was convened following the Israeli attack on Qatar on September 9, an incident that has caused regional alarm and drawn widespread condemnation across the Arab and Islamic world.Somali President Backs Qatar's Sovereignty in Meeting with Emir After Israeli Strike

At the summit, leaders discussed the urgent need for solidarity among Arab and Islamic nations in responding to the crisis. They emphasized that only through unity and coordinated action can the region effectively address threats to peace and stability. A draft resolution, which was expected to be adopted on Monday, underscored the collective stance of Arab and Islamic countries in defending Qatar’s sovereignty and rejecting aggression.

For Somalia, participation in the summit was not only a demonstration of regional solidarity but also a reaffirmation of its values in supporting justice, peace, and respect for national sovereignty. By aligning itself closely with Qatar during this critical moment, Somalia sent a strong message that it stands firmly with its partners and advocates for a united response to external threats.

The visit also highlighted Somalia’s role on the international stage as an active participant in shaping regional discussions and decisions. It showed that, beyond its own internal challenges, Somalia continues to prioritize its diplomatic responsibilities and strengthen its ties with key partners in the Middle East.

President Hassan Sheikh’s meeting with Emir Tamim was therefore both symbolic and strategic. Symbolic in the sense of reaffirming a bond between two brotherly nations, and strategic in showing Somalia’s position within broader Arab and Islamic unity. Both leaders left the talks with a shared understanding of the importance of deepening cooperation, supporting one another, and protecting the dignity and sovereignty of their nations.
