In a passionate address at the Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged immediate action to establish a state of Palestine, stressing that peace in the Middle East hinges on securing Palestinian rights and statehood. Speaking to leaders from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mohamud underscored that the crisis extends beyond politics—it’s a matter of human rights, justice, and dignity.
“The conflict in Gaza transcends politics and ideology; it’s about human rights, dignity, and justice,” President Mohamud declared. He emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire to prevent further civilian casualties, calling for a swift resumption of negotiations toward a two-state solution.
The Case for a Two-State Solution in Palestine
According to Mohamud, a Palestinian state with 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital is the only viable path to a sustainable peace. He appealed to international leaders to unite in support of this framework, suggesting that unresolved tensions in Palestine fuel regional instability and humanitarian crises. “The only solution that offers genuine peace for both parties is a recognized Palestinian state,” he stated, reinforcing Somalia’s commitment to Palestinian rights.
A Regional Push for Peace and Stability in Palestine
The summit, attended by heads of state and ministers from across the Arab world, centers on bolstering regional unity to address crises impacting Middle Eastern stability, from Gaza to Lebanon. Discussions reflect a growing consensus among Arab and Islamic states on the urgency of delivering humanitarian aid and establishing a political framework for peace. Mohamud noted that only through collaborative, international support can the region prevent further escalation and bring hope to affected communities.
Humanitarian Crisis Highlights Call for Action
With millions of Palestinians affected by violence and displacement, Mohamud’s speech highlighted the need for emergency humanitarian relief. In line with Somalia’s diplomatic stance, he condemned the ongoing destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza and Lebanon, pointing to its disastrous impact on vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly.
“This summit represents more than dialogue—it is a commitment to pursue justice and a lasting peace for Palestine,” Mohamud said in closing. His remarks resonated with attendees, as leaders collectively pledged to support initiatives that aid Palestinians and promote regional peace.
