Senior Somali security officials have held a high-level meeting with clan elders in Tardo to reinforce collaboration in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab. The discussions, led by the Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe, and Somali National Army (SNA) Ground Forces Commander Major General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, focused on accelerating military operations and deepening local engagement.
The meeting comes as Somalia intensifies efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s presence in key regions. Officials praised the elders for their role in mobilizing community support and urged continued cooperation to secure liberated areas and prevent militant regrouping. “Defeating terrorism in Somalia requires unity and trust between our security forces and the people,” Sanbaloolshe stated, emphasizing the importance of sustained community mobilization.

The talks in Tardo are part of a broader strategy to expand civilian-military cooperation and stabilize regions reclaimed from insurgent control. The Somali government has prioritized strengthening local partnerships, recognizing that clan elders play a crucial role in intelligence-sharing and counterterrorism efforts.
Security analysts note that the engagement with Tardo elders signals a shift toward a more inclusive approach to counterterrorism, acknowledging that military victories alone are insufficient without grassroots support. The Somali government remains committed to eliminating Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities and restoring peace across the country.
