Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre met with German Ambassador to Somalia Sebastian Groth on Tuesday to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between Somalia and Germany in security, investment, and economic growth. The high-level talks, held in Mogadishu, focused on expanding the long-standing partnership between the two nations as Somalia continues its efforts to rebuild institutions, improve governance, and foster sustainable development.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting highlighted both countries’ shared commitment to deepening diplomatic and development ties. Prime Minister Hamse praised the German government for its consistent and generous support to Somalia, particularly during times of crisis. He acknowledged Germany’s role as one of Somalia’s most reliable international partners, contributing to humanitarian aid, development projects, and peacebuilding efforts.
The Prime Minister noted that Germany’s backing has been instrumental in supporting Somalia’s recovery journey, especially in areas such as governance reform, security sector strengthening, and capacity building for state institutions. He said that as Somalia transitions toward stability, it is crucial to enhance collaboration with countries like Germany that share the vision of a peaceful, self-reliant Somalia.
Ambassador Groth reaffirmed Germany’s continued support for Somalia’s national priorities. He emphasized that the partnership between the two nations is based on friendship, mutual respect, and shared values. The ambassador commended Somalia’s ongoing reforms and progress in rebuilding state structures, adding that Germany will remain a committed ally in Somalia’s path toward peace and prosperity.
Groth noted that Berlin is ready to work closely with the Somali government on initiatives that promote investment, improve economic opportunities, and strengthen social services. He said Germany is particularly interested in supporting projects that empower youth and women, enhance local governance, and build resilience against climate change — all key areas that contribute to long-term stability.
The meeting also reflected a broader effort by the Somali government to engage international partners in support of its reform agenda. Over the past year, Somalia has expanded diplomatic outreach to strengthen alliances with countries and institutions that can help drive economic recovery and national reconstruction. Germany’s involvement is seen as vital in this process, given its extensive experience in development cooperation and peacebuilding.
Prime Minister Hamse highlighted that Somalia is making steady progress in creating a more secure and business-friendly environment, and he invited German investors to explore opportunities in agriculture, renewable energy, infrastructure, and fisheries. He said partnerships like this can open doors for both countries — helping Somalia generate jobs and development, while allowing Germany to play a key role in East Africa’s growing market.
The two leaders agreed to continue regular consultations to ensure the partnership remains focused on tangible outcomes for the Somali people. Both expressed optimism that their collaboration will bring meaningful progress in governance, economic reform, and peacebuilding.
The meeting marked another step forward in Somalia’s efforts to build strong international relationships that support its vision for a stable, prosperous future.
