Somalia has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Zamfara State in northwestern Nigeria, where more than 50 civilians were killed and several women and children were abducted. In an official statement released on Monday, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. The government also wished a quick recovery to those who were injured during the attacks.

The Somali government said it stands firmly with Nigeria during this difficult time. It expressed full solidarity with the government and people of Nigeria and called for the immediate and unconditional release of all those who were taken captive. Somalia also voiced its support for Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to track down and bring those responsible for the violence to justice.

In its message, Somalia highlighted the importance of African countries working together to fight terrorism and protect civilians. The statement stressed that unity across the continent is essential in addressing security threats and ensuring the safety of communities affected by extremist violence.

The deadly attack in Zamfara State took place late Thursday night into Friday morning in Tungan Dutse village, located in the Bukkuyum area. According to local authorities and residents, heavily armed men riding on motorcycles stormed the village under the cover of darkness. The attackers reportedly set several homes on fire, shot dozens of residents, and abducted a number of women and children before fleeing the scene. Survivors described a night of chaos and fear as families tried to escape the violence.

This latest incident adds to a growing wave of insecurity in parts of northwestern Nigeria. Just days earlier, at least 46 people were killed in similar attacks in the Borgu area of Niger State. One of the worst incidents occurred in Konkoso village, where at least 38 people were reportedly killed in a brutal assault. These repeated attacks have raised serious concerns about the safety of rural communities that are often left vulnerable to armed groups.

Nigeria has been battling persistent insecurity for years. Armed bandit groups and criminal networks have carried out kidnappings, raids, and deadly attacks in several regions of the country. These groups often target remote villages, where security presence is limited. Kidnappings for ransom have become a major problem, affecting families and creating widespread fear.

In response to the worsening situation, Nigeria has been working to strengthen its security measures. The country recently expanded its security cooperation with the United States. This move came after U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Nigeria’s handling of sectarian violence and warned that continued killings could have consequences. The expanded cooperation is expected to improve intelligence sharing and support efforts to combat armed groups.

The Somali government’s statement reflects a broader concern among African nations about the spread of terrorism and violent extremism. By condemning the attacks and standing in solidarity with Nigeria, Somalia reinforced the message that terrorism is not just a national issue but a continental challenge that requires collective action.

As Nigeria continues its fight against armed groups, the focus remains on restoring security, rescuing abducted victims, and preventing further attacks. For the families affected in Zamfara and other regions, the hope is for justice, safety, and lasting peace.
