Somalia’s federal government has strongly condemned recent Iranian attacks on several Arab countries, describing them as a violation of national sovereignty and a serious threat to regional stability. In an official statement released on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the strikes caused destruction, injuries, and loss of life, and breached the territorial integrity of the affected nations.
The government expressed deep concern over the growing crisis in the Middle East and voiced solidarity with the countries impacted by the attacks. Somalia specifically mentioned Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, and Oman, stating that it stands with them during this tense period. Mogadishu affirmed that these nations have the right to take lawful measures to protect their citizens, security, and borders.
Notably, the statement did not mention the United Arab Emirates. The omission has drawn attention, as Somalia and the UAE have experienced political tensions in recent years that have affected diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The condemnation comes at a time of rising conflict in the Middle East. Tensions sharply increased after U.S. and Israeli strikes reportedly killed senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran launched retaliatory attacks targeting U.S. military facilities in several countries across the region. The situation has since escalated, with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warning of what it described as its “most intense offensive operation” against Israeli and American military installations. These threats have heightened fears that the conflict could expand into a wider regional war.
Somalia’s Foreign Ministry urged all parties involved to show restraint and avoid further escalation. The government emphasized the importance of dialogue and peaceful engagement, calling on those concerned to prioritize diplomacy over military action. According to the statement, Somalia supports all peaceful efforts aimed at resolving regional disputes and achieving long-term peace and stability.
Mogadishu stressed that diplomacy remains the best path forward and encouraged leaders in the region to work toward solutions that promote coexistence and security for all. The government warned that continued hostilities could worsen instability in an already fragile Middle East.
Historically, Somalia has aligned itself with Gulf and Arab nations on major regional security and political matters. Its latest statement reflects this longstanding position and signals concern that the growing tensions could have broader consequences beyond the immediate conflict zones.
With the Middle East facing increasing uncertainty, Somalia’s response highlights its commitment to supporting regional partners while advocating for peaceful conflict resolution. The government’s message was clear: sovereignty must be respected, civilian lives must be protected, and diplomacy should take precedence over confrontation to prevent further suffering and instability.
