Somalia’s Council of Ministers has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recent strike on Doha, the capital of Qatar, calling it a “heinous attack” and a clear violation of Qatar’s sovereignty. The statement came after the council’s regular weekly meeting on Thursday, where Somali leaders stressed their country’s unwavering support for the government and people of Qatar in the face of the attack.
According to the Somali government, such actions not only threaten Qatar’s security but also undermine international law and basic principles that are meant to protect civilians. Somalia made it clear that it fully rejects any form of aggression and violations of sovereignty, warning that unchecked actions like this could worsen instability in the region.
The condemnation follows an earlier response from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which also strongly criticized Israel’s strike. The ministry described it as a “flagrant violation of international agreements and principles” and called on the United Nations Security Council to take swift and effective action. Somali officials urged the Security Council to hold Israel accountable and to step in immediately to stop what they described as “aggressive acts” that endanger both regional and global peace.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also personally reached out to Qatar’s Emir by phone. During the call, he expressed Somalia’s solidarity with Qatar and reassured the country of Somalia’s full support. The president emphasized that targeting residential areas where Hamas leaders are based is a dangerous escalation and a blatant breach of international norms. He noted that such attacks directly threaten Qatar’s security and could further destabilize the already fragile situation in the Middle East.
Somalia’s stance is not only about defending Qatar but also about protecting the broader principles of sovereignty, peace, and justice. By condemning the strike, Somali leaders highlighted their belief that no country should be allowed to carry out attacks that put civilians and entire nations at risk. They warned that if such actions are ignored, they could encourage further violations of international law and make it even harder to achieve stability in the region.
In its message, Somalia joined other nations in urging all sides to show restraint and respect international law. The government also called for renewed efforts toward a ceasefire that would not only bring peace to the Middle East but also deliver justice to those affected by the ongoing conflict. Somalia stressed that only a commitment to diplomacy, cooperation, and dialogue can secure long-term peace and stability in the region.
For Somalia, the issue is more than just politics—it is about standing on the side of justice and supporting a fellow nation whose sovereignty has been threatened. By condemning Israel’s actions and voicing its solidarity with Qatar, Somalia made clear that it will continue to advocate for international law, peace, and the protection of civilian lives. The government hopes that the global community, especially the UN Security Council, will rise to the occasion and act decisively to prevent further escalations.
This latest statement reflects Somalia’s consistent position on regional conflicts, where it often stresses the importance of respecting sovereignty, rejecting aggression, and working toward peaceful solutions. At a time when tensions in the Middle East remain high, Somalia’s call adds to the growing chorus of voices demanding accountability and urging a pathway to peace.
