Abdisalam Abdi Ali urges Somali envoys to align with national goals, improve citizen services, and boost international partnerships
On Thursday, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, held an online meeting with Somali ambassadors, permanent representatives, and consuls general who are working in different countries around the world. The main goal of the meeting was to improve how Somalia’s diplomats work together and to make the country’s international efforts stronger and more effective.
During the virtual session, the Minister gave clear instructions to all heads of missions — these include ambassadors, consuls, and other top diplomatic officials. He asked them to prepare detailed work plans for the year. These plans must be in line with Somalia’s foreign policy goals and the National Transformation Plan (NTP), which is a national roadmap aimed at guiding the country’s development and progress.
The Minister said that it is very important for Somali missions in different countries to work closely with the main offices at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He stressed that there should be regular communication and cooperation between embassies and the ministry’s departments. To help keep track of what each mission is doing, he also asked that they send in monthly and quarterly reports. These updates will allow the ministry to monitor progress, make better decisions, and provide support where needed.
The meeting focused on several important topics. One of the key discussions was about how Somalia can improve its representation in other countries. This means making sure that Somali embassies and diplomats are doing a good job of showing the world who Somalia is and what the country stands for. Another important issue was how to offer better services to Somali citizens living or traveling abroad. The Minister emphasized that Somali people in other countries must feel supported and protected by their embassies.
They also talked about how to build strong partnerships with other countries and international organizations. These partnerships are meant to help Somalia grow and reach its development goals. For example, good relationships can lead to more investment, support for peace and security, and stronger trade ties.
Minister Abdisalam made it clear that diplomacy plays a very important role in Somalia’s future. He said that through strong and effective diplomacy, Somalia can promote its national interests on a global level. This includes gaining more support from other countries, helping to bring stability to the nation, boosting the economy, and connecting better with other countries in the region.
He added that Somalia’s embassies and foreign missions are not just offices in faraway places. They are an important part of the government’s plan to improve the country. Whether it’s helping Somali citizens abroad, speaking on behalf of the country at the United Nations, or working with foreign investors, these missions must always act in ways that support Somalia’s long-term goals.
In conclusion, the meeting led by Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali was an important step in strengthening Somalia’s diplomacy. By encouraging better planning, more teamwork, and regular updates, the government hopes that its diplomats can be more effective in representing the country and helping it move forward. Somalia’s presence and influence in the international community are growing, and with a clear strategy and united diplomatic team, the country aims to build a brighter and more connected future.
