Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working with international partners, announced that 12 al-Shabaab fighters, including some senior leaders, were killed in a military operation in the Galguduud region on Friday. Thirteen more militants were injured during the raid, which took place in the Ceel-dhiiqo Weyne area between Ceel-lahelay and Ceel-garas.
According to NISA, the operation targeted a major al-Shabaab training camp that had been preparing over 400 fighters for planned attacks against civilians and government institutions. Security forces confirmed that some of the militants managed to escape and fled toward El-Buur district, where operations to track them down are still ongoing.
Officials said the strike was part of broader efforts to weaken al-Shabaab’s presence and limit its ability to launch attacks in central Somalia. By destroying one of the group’s key training facilities, the operation aimed to disrupt its recruitment and preparation networks. The government emphasized that such missions are necessary to restore security and protect communities from continued violence.
