The two sides discussed ways to build a closer working relationship between the Upper House and the North Eastern State Parliament, particularly in areas such as lawmaking, oversight, and promoting shared national interests. They also underlined the importance of collaboration in addressing issues that affect citizens at both federal and state levels, including peacebuilding, development, and the fair distribution of resources.
Dr. Aw-Hassan’s visit is part of a series of engagements he has been holding in Mogadishu over the past few weeks. During his stay, he has met with various federal government officials and community leaders to enhance cooperation and ensure that the newly established state remains closely connected with national institutions. His efforts reflect the broader vision of fostering unity and strengthening the relationship between federal and regional authorities in Somalia.
The North Eastern State Parliament, which recently held its inaugural sessions, is playing a key role in setting up governance frameworks and legislative priorities for the region. Speaker Aw-Hassan expressed appreciation for the Upper House’s support and guidance during this critical phase. He noted that the partnership between state parliaments and the federal institutions is vital to ensuring inclusive governance and national cohesion.
Hon. Timacadde reaffirmed that the Upper House stands ready to work with all state parliaments to promote Somalia’s political stability and institutional development.
