A shocking incident unfolded in northwest Turkey on Monday as an 18-year-old teenager, wearing a helmet and bulletproof vest, randomly stabbed five people at an open-air cafe in the city of Eskisehir. The attack, which was broadcast live on social media, has left two of the victims in serious condition.

    Details of the Attack

The teenager, identified as Arda K., carried out the attack in a cafe where people were relaxing after prayers at a nearby mosque. According to reports from HaberTurk television, Arda K. used a camera attached to his vest to live-stream the assault on social media.

Authorities were alerted quickly, and the attacker was detained following a police chase, the Eskisehir governor’s office confirmed. In addition to the knife used in the attack, the teenager was also carrying an ax, though it appears he did not use it during the incident.

    Victims and Investigation

The five individuals who were injured in the stabbing were immediately taken to the hospital. Two of them are currently in serious condition, as reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency.

Turkey’s Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, announced that a thorough investigation into the attack has begun. Initial reports suggest that the assailant may have been influenced by a video game, though this is yet to be confirmed.

This incident has raised concerns about the influence of violent media on young individuals, as well as the broader issue of random acts of violence in public spaces. The investigation will likely focus on the motive behind the attack and how the teenager came to be in possession of the weapons and protective gear used.

    Public Reaction

The incident has shocked the local community in Eskisehir and sparked a broader discussion in Turkey about youth violence and the impact of online content. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
