Guriel – Reports are emerging from Galgadud region that tensions are high in the town of Guriel, where, Galmudug and Ahlu Sunna forces are conducting operations.
Residents fear fighting could result in the displacement of many families from the town. Additionally most businesses in Guri El have closed, and traders are concerned about the tense situation there.
Ahlu Sunna forces have reportedly set up new defenses on the outskirts of the town, and have now begun mobilizing substantial forces.
Meanwhile, Galmudug and government forces are in the area between Dhusamareb and Guri El, planning to attack Ahlu Sunna.
Thus far, there has been no official statement issued by either side regarding the current tension in the Galgadud region of central Somalia.
There have been various calls to Galmudug and Ahlu Sunna, for them to enter into negotiations, to resolve the reoccurring conflict.
In recent years Somalia has been experience deteriorating security amid the tentative gains made of the past decade, coupled with delays in election concerns are emerging about the stability of Somalia.
