The Impact of Climate Change on Water and Food Security in Somalia

As the world is using more and more food, water, electricity, and all resource-based products with no thought for the environment or future generations. Climate change is impacting our daily lives immensely. With climate change out of control, the average temperature has increased by 0.2°C over the last 30 years. This temperature increase has broken records with all-time low temperatures being broken as well as all-time high temperatures being reached this year in some areas across the globe. This rising of temperature has, of course, affected the weather.

In preparation of Cop26, Accord University in partnership with the United Nations Association of Somalia held and event about the Impact of Climate Change on Water and Security in Somalia about 400 participants from different institutions attended the event that highlighted the need for renewable energy in Somalia as part of the durable solutions offered by UNASOM.

Food security is a state of economic well-being in which all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs for a productive and satisfying life. In other words, food security means being able to eat three meals a day that are healthy and have the right nutrients for your body type we also need to mention that farming and other means of food security should also be renewable.

Renewable energy is a class of technologies that derive their energy from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, geothermal heat or a combination of these. The general goal is to significantly reduce the impact of humanity on the planet by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels.

In the past few years renewable energy technology has been rapidly expanding around the world due to environmental concerns and increasing global concern for future power supply.
