The President’s Special Envoy for Drought and Humanitarian Affairs Mr.Abdirahman AbdiShakur Warsame met today with the Indian Ambassador to Kenya Dr.Virander Paul in Nairobi.
The Envoy and the Indian Ambassador held in-depth talks on the long-standing relations between the Governments of Somalia and India and how to bring back Indian investments to Somalia.
The Envoy emphasized the impact of global food insecurity and drought related inflation and called on the Indian government to assist Somalia in reducing the cost of main food imports from India such as rice and sugar.
The Envoy discussed with the Ambassador that India should advocate for Somalia in the international arena, especially in the G20, to participate in aiding the people affected by the drought.
On his part, The Indian Ambassador welcomed and promised the Special Envoy that India will always stand by Somalia and will do its utmost to support Somalia especially in the drought relief.
