    – On Thursday, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre presided over the weekly cabinet meeting, which discussed the implementation of government agencies’ action plans in 2023.

President Mohamud praised the Cabinet for establishing an annual plan in keeping with the national goal of progress, freedom, and the reconstruction of the National Army, highlighting that 2023 is the year of re-liberation and the rebuilding of government institutions.

The President has asked the Cabinet to guarantee that government services are supplied to recently liberated al-Shabab districts, while also ensuring that the quality of projects conducted has long-term value for the Somali people.

At its weekly meeting, the Somali Cabinet approved two key draft laws. The National Intelligence and Security Institution Act, as well as the National Identification and Registration Act, are both in effect.

One of the laws reviewed Wednesday during a meeting on the security situation and the arms embargo on Somalia was the National Intelligence and Security Agency (draft) Act.

Top security officials, including intelligence chief Mahad Mohamed Salad, as well as military and police commanders, were present at the meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Hamza Barre.

In the next days, the two draft acts will be submitted to parliament for approval.
