Somali Magazine – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday to attend the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), the world’s top environmental forum.
Kenya’s deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, as well as defense minister Aden Duale and other government officials, received the president at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The president and his group will meet with world leaders and representatives from civil society, the commercial sector, and academia to discuss important environmental challenges and climate crisis solutions.
“Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals” is the subject of UNEA-6. The assembly will address issues such as biodiversity loss, pollution, waste management, and green recovery.
President Mohamud is due to give a statement at the assembly’s opening session on Thursday, outlining Somalia’s accomplishments and problems in implementing environmental policies and initiatives.
The president will also undertake bilateral discussions with other leaders of state and government, as well as UN officials, to promote collaboration and partnership in environmental issues.
UNEA-6 will take place from February 26 to March 1, 2024, at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi.
