On the boundaries of Las Anod, a furious struggle between Somaliland forces and SSC-Khatumo forces broke out once more on Tuesday.
The Somaliland army reportedly targeted SSC army posts outside of town, which sparked the conflict. However, the government of Somaliland afterwards claimed in a statement that when the SSC assaulted their army bases, they were able to defend themselves.
Who started the fight and how many people were killed in the town are still unknown.
Locals claim that Somaliland forces shelled the town heavily with mortars, severely damaging significant monuments.
The conflict at Las Anod has now lasted for 17 days without the intervention of a third party.
There have been more than 500 injuries, over 500 fatalities, and over 170 casualties.
