After being convicted of murder, two Somali Police Force officers, Abdi Shakur Ahmed Mohamud and Abdi Jamal Abdullahi, were executed by firing squad in Mogadishu on Monday morning.
Abdishakur was found guilty of murdering another police officer, Hassan Mohamed Shire, while Abdi Jamal Abdullahi Haile was found guilty of robbing and murdering Abdihakin Mohamud Khalif.
The number of executions carried out by Somalia’s military court has surged in recent months, with dozens carried out since the beginning of the year. The majority of people executed were government security officers or Al-Shabaab fighters judged guilty of capital crimes by a military trial. Executions have been carried out quickly, with some taking place within weeks.
