In the midst of Round 4 of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, Ukraine’s Diplomatic Adviser to the President, Ihor Ivanovych Zhovkva, stated on Monday that the country is prepared to preserve a neutral position if it means an end to the current conflict.

In a live interview with Republic TV, Zhovkva stated that Ukraine would not join NATO or the European Union unless its neighbors, especially Russia, could ensure the country’s and people’s security.

When asked what his nation hoped to gain from the different peace discussions and agreements, Zhovkva stated that Ukraine had no interest in joining NATO. He pointed out that the conflict had no justification because all his country cared about was the safety of its citizens.

He did, however, set the framework for successful discussions with Russia.

For any peace discussions to be fruitful, Zhovkva stressed that there must be a complete truce.

He also stated that the Russian forces occupying Ukraine must be evacuated.

Because “Russia can no longer be trusted,” Zhovkva stated that pledges of fresh peace and security guarantees for his nation must come from neighboring countries as well as other big countries.
