Since 2018, Somali magazines have been conducting annual nominations for “Person of the Year” from the 100 most influential Somalis.
This year’s person of the year is Dr. Shafi Adan Dirir, the co-founder of the Shaafi Hospital in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. Dr. Shafi is regarded as one of the country’s finest surgeons and was nominated as one of the 100 most influential Somalis of 2022 in a poll that was conducted on the Somali magazine’s media platforms.

Somali Magazine announces the 100 most influential Somalis of 2022 and the person of the year. More than 2 million people nominated on Somali magazine’s website for the Fourth year in a row. In the category of politicians and leaders, according to the Somali Magazine List, there are H.E. President Hassan Shiekh Mohamud, H.E. Former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, H.E. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and H.E. Former Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Rooble, as well as former Deputy Mayor of Benadir Region and Chief Security Officer H.E. Cali Yare Cali.
On the business side, President of the Somali Chamber of Commerce Mahamud Abdi Gabeyre, Ismail Abdullahi Siyad (Ismail Gooni), and Ibrahim Nor Hillowly are on the business category list.
Somali Magazine Director Ridwan Yusuf Haji explained the process of the nominations , the 100 most influential Somalis, and the Person of the Year. This is the fourth year that Somali Magazine has published the 100 Most Influential Somali People.
