The central committee of Sudanese medics reported in a statement Sunday that the death toll in ongoing battles between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has reached 56, with 595 injured.

The committee urged the RSF and Sudanese Armed Forces to provide humanitarian corridors to allow evacuations of those injured during the conflict, particularly civilians, as well as renal patients.

“We call on all forces to open safe exit passages for patients being held in a dialysis center near the army command in Khartoum,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, fighting between the two sides raged on for the second day in a row in several districts of Khartoum’s capital, particularly near army headquarters.

The military claimed to be closing in on RSF bases in Khartoum and other states.

The army stated in a statement that forces held bases in Omdurman, Khartoum’s twin city across the White Nile River, and that the conflict will be over soon.

The RSF has contradicted the armed forces’ statement, emphasizing that skirmishes are still taking place.

In addition, the paramilitary group claimed in a statement that its soldiers shot down a military plane Friday night.

According to eyewitnesses in Khartoum, hundreds of people, including more than 400 schoolchildren, were detained in downtown Khartoum, where fierce skirmishes were taking place near the army headquarters.

In addition, the UN reported that three humanitarian workers were slain in Kabkabiya, North Darfur.
