A major fire blasted through a paint factory in India’s capital, New Delhi, killing at least 11 people and injuring four, according to the Press Trust of India.
According to fire officials, the incident broke out late Thursday on the factory’s ground floor, trapping the victims on the floors above with no escape route. The structure, which also contains a chemical warehouse, is located in the Alipur neighborhood of northern New Delhi.
The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent.
The 11 victims’ burnt bodies were found from the rubble after 22 fire engines extinguished the flames after a five-hour battle. The victims have yet to be recognized.
Fires are widespread in India, where construction codes and safety standards are frequently ignored by builders and people.
